Chromasporesis showing at SOAK 2013. An art installation specifically to showcase the lighting prowes of Jopel Designs.
The installation aims to create a calming, meditative environment through the use of gently fading lights mounted directly in a tree. 12 radially-oriented armatures will dangle 48 paper lantern “spores” with full color LEDs inside. Each of the spores are independently lit and controlled, but act together as a group to create dynamic, cohesive color patterns. A system of removable chains will be used to suspend the armatures and spores, eliminating permanent damage to the tree. Individual spores will have variable lengths of chain; some spores may be closer to the ground while some may be high in the branches. An open gathering space beneath the tree is manditory.
Chromaspores is another manifestation of a networked LIA-3 system. Six LIA-3 contorlers are networked to drive 48 independant LED channels.
As shown by this concept art, each channel is carried through several harnesses into a paper lantern where it drives 2ft of 30/m analog RGB LED strrip (18 LEDs).
The entire system mounts to a tree using several chains sinched around the tree trunk, no nails or screws are used.
Installation by 2 people in 4-8 hours.
