APS - Advanced Parking Sensor
Simply
put, the Advanced Parking Sensor tells you when your car is far enough in the
garage for the door to shut safely. There are several other products, using
various other technologies that perform the same function, but the APS has
several features place it leaps and bounds ahead of the competition;
Adjustability, Versatility and Form.
Adjustability:
The APS makes use of a highly advanced infrared sensor called a PB-9.
The PB-9 uses a pulsed light source and synchronized detector to take distance measurements. Instead of shining a light and looking for how bright the reflection is, the PB-9 measures how long it takes for the light pulse to reach the object and return. That light beam is continually swept back and forth, aimed by a couple of motor actuated mirrors. As the beam sweeps, hundreds of distance measurements are taken and the sensor gathers a two dimensional (direction and distance) understanding of its surroundings. Not bad eh?
Advanced software inside the sensor allows multiple boundaries
to be created for object detection. When you open your garage door, the bay is
empty and the APS shows a green light. As you pull in, the outer boundary is
crossed and the light turns yellow. As the inner boundary is crossed the light
turns red. The detection areas are fully configurable (up to 4 meters) based on
your unique environment and sensor placement.
Versatility:
Because the APS uses such an advanced sensor it can also be configured for any conceivable situation. It can even be used with multiple vehicles. The sensor can be placed on the ceiling or wall, at many angles and orientations.
The power cord and indicator light cord use industry standard cables for ultimate configurability.
The APS is designed to receive power from your garage door openers' light. A light socket to wall plug adapter is placed in the light socket of the garage door opener, and the power cable connected. Connecting power in this way guarantees the APS is only turned on when the garage door is opened or closed.
The APS can also be configured for use with a motion sensor outlet.
There are 2 styles of indicator light, one designed to hang from the ceiling (Omni-directional), the other style mounts to the wall.
Form Factor:
The APS is built by hand with great care and is designed for style, durability and reliability. The chassis is built tough, with durable plastics, aluminum and stainless steel hardware. Every component used was selected to provide years of service.
The unit is powered by your garage door opener, so there are never any batteries to replace.
There's an auxiliary power outlet for connecting a replacement light, Which allows you to upgrade the tiny light in your garage door opener to something more useful, like a 4 foot florescent lamp.
